Committees and boards are important elements of organization and administration at German universities. They serve to make decisions, develop strategies and represent the interests of the various groups within the university. Committees and boards have certain competencies and responsibilities, which are defined in the respective statutes or rules of procedure. These may vary depending on the university and the type of committee or board. As a general rule, members of committees and boards have voting rights and are usually required to meet regularly to carry out their duties.
Committees and bodies briefly explained
A Committee is a group of members assigned by a higher authority to work on specific tasks or problems and to make recommendations or decisions. Committees can be established at different levels of university administration, for example, at the faculty level, at the university/college level, or at the student body level. General examples of committees at German universities are the examination committee, the doctoral committee, the budget committee or the staff council.
A Board on the other hand, is an assembly of representatives from different groups who make joint decisions and recommendations. Like committees, boards can be established at different levels of university administration, for example, at the faculty level, at the university/college level, or at the student body level. General examples of committees at German universities are the senate, the faculty council, the university council or the student council.

What committees are there at HHN?
The Student Parliament (StuPa) ensures that resolutions are passed. These resolutions are adopted by the General Student Committee (AStA) and the Student Council (StuV) implemented or brought forward to the Senate by student Senate members.
These are important decisions for the benefit of the students. However, it is difficult to decide everything in large groups. For this reason, there are the committees. These have specialized in certain topics and therefore have expert knowledge. They meet regularly to prepare resolutions that are then voted on in the StuPa. This way, all important topics can be discussed and decisions can be made on a broad basis.
The work of the committees ensures that all important topics are discussed in the StuPa and that decisions are made on a broad basis. At the same time, the work of the StuPa is also facilitated, as the committees make an important contribution to the preparation of decisions.
What committees are there at HHN?
Committees are important groups at universities that organize and manage themselves. They help make decisions so that not just one person decides everything. Without committees, public universities could not function properly. There are two types of committees: student (StuPa, AStA and Fachschaften) and academic (Senate, Rectorate and Faculty Council).
The academic committees deal with important issues such as the content of studies, the strategic orientation of the university and the appointment of professors.
There are many different committees at our university, such as the Faculty Council and the Senate.
Listed below are the university committees on which student members are represented. If you are interested in a committee or would like to learn more about it, you can contact the chair of the student parliament (vorsitz-studierendenparlament∂asta.hs-heilbronn.de) write.
