Fast Forward Science: Win up to €3,000

Fast Forward Science, the multimedia competition for science, is once again looking for the best science content on social media. Still until 07 February interested parties can submit entries for one of the awards, which are endowed with a total of €23,000.

The competition

Fast Forward Science is a multimedia competition organized by Wissenschaft im Dialog and the Stifterverband and has been held annually since 2013. It honors social media contributions that deal with current science and research. Whether students, doctoral candidates, postdocs, or experienced scientists - there is the right award for everyone!

The main competition is all about moving images. Interested parties can submit up to three video entries in different categories.

The categories

Video categories

YOUNG SCIENTISTS AWARD

1st place: € 3,000 | 2nd place: € 2,000 | 3rd place: € 1,000

The Young Scientist Award is aimed at anyone who is still at the beginning of their research career: Students, PhD students and young postdocs who want to bring their research to as many people as possible. No matter how much experience you already have with social media — the important thing is that you explain your scientific interest in an exciting way. The partner of the Young Scientist Award is the German Future Prize.

SCIENTISTS AND RESEARCH INSTITUTION AWARD

1st place: € 3,000 | 2nd place: € 2,000 | 3rd place: € 1,000

Do science and social media go hand in hand for you? The Scientist & Research Institution Award is aimed at all scientists with a doctorate or working in research who communicate science and research in video contributions — comprehensibly, precisely and entertainingly. Teamwork is expressly permitted, because this category also welcomes submissions from entire research centers or university institutes!

TANDEM AWARD

1st place: € 3,000 | 2nd place: € 2,000 | 3rd place: € 1,000

Communicating scientific topics can be quite a challenge for many scientists in their day-to-day research. YouTubers, Instagrammers, etc., on the other hand, often lack the right experts for exciting topics from science. The Tandem Award is just right for collaborations between both worlds. Co-productions by scientific institutions and scifluencers or production companies can also be submitted here.

SHORT AND CRISP AWARD

3.000 €

Exciting multimedia contributions are not only available in German. The Short & Crisp Award focuses on internationality. We are looking for entertaining science videos under 15 minutes on social media in all languages. The partner of the Short & Crisp Award is the SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival in Halle.

Special prices

In addition to the video categories, two special awards will be presented, offering room for experimentation:

OPEN BOX SPECIAL

1.000 €

This special award knows (almost) no boundaries and is suitable for anyone who feels comfortable away from the moving image focus. Here, particularly innovative online formats of science communication are sought. An entertaining photo essay from field research, a dedicated website for lab bacteria or an interactive online exhibition: There are no limits to creativity in this category!

AUDIO SPECIAL

1.000 €

With this award, we close our eyes and listen, because podcasts, radio plays and radio features with scientific content also tell interesting stories and get people excited about science. The Audio Special Award honors exciting, comprehensible and target-group-oriented contributions that do without any visual material. Scientists, media professionals and all audiophiles interested in science can submit entries!
