Corona update on the exam situation

We have received countless inquiries regarding the examination phase and Corona. Most of them asked how to proceed if you have to go into quarantine during the exam period. We finally have answers for you and hope to give you some clarity.

What happens if I have an exam and am in quarantine?

If you are in quarantine and therefore cannot take part in an attendance examination, this is considered an excused withdrawal, just as in the case of sick leave. In the case of quarantine, please report to the responsible examiner as well as to the responsible person in the Examination Office at the Academic Department. The official document (from the health office) requesting quarantine is valid as proof.

How can I avoid special hardships if I had to withdraw from the exam due to quarantine or illness?

First of all, you can ask your examiner whether it is possible to make up the exam at short notice outside the examination period. This is permitted with the consent of the examiner, the examination board and the member of the rectorate responsible for teaching according to § 8 para. 1 SPO. If you have withdrawn through no fault of your own, the following cases usually constitute a case of hardship, which can then be resolved accordingly:

  1. Graduation should still take place in WiSe 2021/22
The degree should still be completed in WiSe 2021/22. This is the case if the student is in the final semester and the BT/MT is already registered. A degree must be completed in this semester because the student already has an employment contract or wants to start a master's program. Proof of this must be provided by the student.

  2. The practical semester starts next semester
The student is planning the internship semester in summer semester 22, but still has to take examinations as a prerequisite for admission to the internship semester. An exceptional case may exist if the student has registered for all the examinations required for admission. Proof of this must be provided by the student.

  3. I am going to study abroad next semester (Outgoings/Incomings)
The student plans to spend a semester abroad in summer semester 22, but still has to take examinations as a prerequisite for admission to the semester abroad. An exceptional case may exist if the student has registered for all examinations required for admission. Proof of this must be provided by the student.

  4. Examination requirements
In the case of examinations in which certain examinations in which certain examinations must be completed before they can be taken. Such requirements are regulated in the special part of the SPO for the individual degree programs.

As a rule, the best way to find a solution is through § 8 paragraph 1 SPO, so that an examination date can be found.
